Our Mission

We stand for access without barriers.

Access Community Wellness Alliance (ACWA) is an anti-oppressive social services organization dedicated to advancing human rights through accessible wellness services, food security, and housing stability. We accept all insurance plans and offer equitable, income-based payment options to ensure care remains accessible to all.

Who We Serve

Individuals and families navigating homelessness — across Illinois, Washington D.C., New York, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Jamaica. We operate entirely online, 24/7, anchored in the Illinois CST timezone.

Always Free at Intake

Donation-based. No fees. No paperwork mazes. Where insurance is accepted, we bill it directly so client contributions can stretch further. See Insurance & Billing.

Why Pride

Our doors don't close for anyone. This Pride Month, we reaffirm that LGBTQ+ community members — disproportionately impacted by housing instability — find a home here every month of the year.

Always On

Crises don't follow a 9-to-5. Neither do we. Our scheduling and crisis lines are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Inside the Alliance

How we operate.

01

Donation-Funded

Every service is underwritten by individual donors, foundations, and partner organizations. No paywalls, no qualifying interviews.

02

Fully Online

ACWA operates 24/7 from a distributed online team anchored in Illinois CST — no walk-in offices, no business hours.

03

Coordinated Field Network

Local partners handle physical delivery — groceries, transition placements, in-person counselor matches — across six service regions.

04

Clinical Standards

Counseling is delivered by licensed clinicians using evidence-based modalities (DBT, CBT, ACT) under HIPAA-aligned workflows.

05

Always Free at Intake

In our anti-oppressive community care model, clients are never billed at the point of care. Clients can opt into a sliding scale, or use their health insurance to offset the sustaining cost.

06

Open Accountability

Quarterly impact reports, transparent funding sources, and a published board roster. Ask us anything.

Billing & Insurance

No surprise bills. Ever.

Core ACWA services — housing placement, food delivery, and most counseling — are free at the point of care. Where insurance reimbursement is available, we bill plans directly so client donations can fuel additional capacity.

Always Free

Food delivery, crisis support, and group counseling — no charge to the client, regardless of coverage. If your insurance doesn't cover the cost, you will never get a bill.

Insurance-Billed

Individual clinical counseling is billed to commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and EAPs where accepted.

Sliding Scale

If you're underinsured, we apply a sliding scale that almost always lands at $0 — funded by our donor pool.

Transparent Receipts

Donors receive 501(c)(3) tax receipts. Clients receive plain-language statements with no hidden codes.
